Gillman Barracks is a contemporary art cluster in Singapore, located in conserved colonial military barracks built in 1936. It houses international and local art galleries.
Gillman is not a museum but a living art cluster. It has faced declines in attendance and the departure of galleries more than once, and even the option of redevelopment into housing was considered. Yet artistic activities continue, and the place remains important for Singapore’s art scene.
Sundaram Tagore Gallery has branches in New York, London, and Singapore.
The gallery showcases works by international and local artists, often engaged in cross-cultural dialogues and the blending of visual traditions. It is not a tourist spot — it is intended for connoisseurs of contemporary art, students, and local intellectuals.
The founder, Sundaram Tagore, sought to challenge Western-centric standards and demonstrate that the most significant artworks are created by artists deeply engaged in cross-cultural explorations — blending Western visual traditions with the forms, philosophies, and techniques of Asia, the Middle East, and South Asia.

21 pieces from Zhao’s A Few Ordinary Parallel Lines series (2022 – 2025) – small, intimate paintings that feature rows of predominantly white, off-white, or pale grey strips. Each row is made up of many small shards – these are in fact tiny pieces of eggshells.
Established in 1994 in Tokyo. For over 25 years, the gallery has defined itself as being a pioneer of Japanese contemporary art. Ota Fine Arts has promoted various Japanese artists, including internationally-acclaimed Yayoi Kusama, and has been expanding the variety of its artists and their works.
In 2012, Ota Fine Arts opened a gallery space in Gillman Barracks, Singapore, to expand its programmes in the region. One of the main goals of Ota Fine Arts is to support and showcase more regional character, originality and commonality of the Asian cultural belt.
The gallery hopes to continue its commitment to East Asian artists, and moreover to organize various collaborations with artists from South Eastern Asia to the Middle East region.
Executive Director Sueo Mizuma established Mizuma Art Gallery in Tokyo in 1994. Since its opening in Gillman Barracks, Singapore in 2012, the gallery aims for the promotion of East Asian artists in the region as well as the introduction of Southeast Asian artists to the international art scene.
From 2014 to 2019, the artist residency space “Rumah Kijang Mizuma” operated in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, providing a new platform for dialogue by supporting exchanges between East Asia and Southeast Asia.

Over the past four decades, Noor Mahnun, more widely known as Anum, has developed a painting practice grounded in observation, memory, and meticulous technique. At 60, Anum’s work continues to encompass a vibrant interplay of influences from Southeast Asia and the West.
Boundaries Between Reality and Image
A solo exhibition by Kim Kang-Yong, a renowned Korean artist celebrated for his captivating exploration of the relationship between reality and image. It’s his second solo presentation in the city, further deepening his ongoing dialogue with Southeast Asian audiences.
Originally established in New York, The Columns Gallery came to bear its current name in 2005 after its operations moved to Seoul. Over the last 26 years, The Columns has cemented its reputation as one of the most powerful contemporary art galleries in Asia. Lai Yu Tong’s first solo exhibition with the gallery, features a new series of works that centres around his encounters with a pack of stray dogs. He invites us to reconsider our relationship with entities that exist on the fringes of our environments, while reflecting upon his own experiences and interactions with the dogs across several months.
ShanghART Singapore is dedicated to better serve the artists, as well as encourage enlightening exhibitions and spiritual and aesthetic dialogues.
ShangART is one of China’s most influential art institutions and a vital resource to the development of contemporary art in China with two spaces in 50 Moganshan Road (Main Space and H-Space), a public warehouse space in West of Shanghai (ShanghART Taopu), a gallery space in Beijing, and a new space in Singapore, and representing over 40 artists.
Established in 2006, the eponymous FOST Gallery takes its name from its founder, Stephanie Fong, who from the outset made it her mission to show progressive contemporary artists from around the world with a special focus on artists based in Singapore. The gallery showcases artists at different stages in their careers but all with a predilection for being at the fore of contemporary art.
FOST Gallery was first located in a refurbished shophouse designed by respected architectural firm ipli Architects in the historic warehouse district near the Singapore River.
In 2012, the gallery expanded and moved to Gillman Barracks, Singapore’s premier contemporary art precinct. The new gallery space was designed by another award-winning firm, Ministry of Design.
The Lie of the Land: Sediments

An annual group exhibition held in conjunction with Singapore’s national day. This year, a special edition titled Sediments is being presented to celebrate the 60th anniversary of her founding, with all artworks made specifically for this exhibition.
Mucciaccia Gallery, founded by Massimiliano Mucciaccia, is present worldwide, with galleries in Rome, London, Cortina d’Ampezzo and Singapore. The gallery’s vision is to explore the works of artists and sculptors who sought new approaches to art, with a particular attention to the XX and XXI century.
The identity of the gallery is defined for its strong exhibition program featuring leading modern and contemporary Italian and international artists. It continuously works in collaboration with institutions, estates and foundations, to organize museum-quality exhibitions.
Mucciaccia Gallery has built a reputation for working closely with curators to define and support the artistic career of their artists, and to highlight their work on an international scale.
